Can a rod blank be shimmed to accommodate a handle with an over size ID. Trying to build a 11.5’ 4/5wt spey and have a 10” fore-grip but ID is .125 is too large for a snug fit.

Sure. One of the easiest ways is to spiral a length of heavy thread or cord along the blank. Leave 1/8th inch or so space between the wraps. The end result will still be a great bond and plenty of support under the grip for it's full length.

Hi Ned. I just had to do the same. I used plastic flytying ribbing. It worked great. The ribbing stayed were I wanted it. Tom

My only concern on the plastic ribbon is that epoxy may not bond to it vey well. Some plastics are tough to get anything to bond to. I'd stick with cord or thread.
