I'm having trouble finding the right shade of blue nylon A. Gudebrod doesn't have it. Does anyone have a name and source for different brands? Also, is there an equivalent nylon size A in a polyester thread and is it suitable for rod wrapping?
Thanks Re: blue thread

Madiera Polyneon 40 works great, and lots of colors to choose from. Re: blue thread

James if you cant find it in Madeira 40wt it probably doesnt exist. Great stuff. Not quite as easy to work with on flat wraps but can be done. Recommend you use CP to avoid fisheyes. Re: blue thread

James, Colors change once your CP or finish is applied. Take a scrap piece of blank, same color as the rod, wrap a band of the few colors that are close. Apply CP to 1/2 of each band and then epoxy all bands. The color that you are looking for may appear! Ed Re: blue thread

The blank I'm building is the blue Sage Xi2. I have Gudebrod Royal blue, cobalt blue, and Navy. To my liking the Navy is too dark and the other 2 are too light. I'll try the CP on the 2 lighter ones. Thanks for the iinformation. Re: blue thread

You might also want to try Coates & Clark Trilobal thread as it is NOT supposed to contain lubricants....I still use CP with it anyway however.

James, I just now took a look at the Madeira PolyNeon 40 thread card (it has the actual threads on the card) and counted something like 50 shades of blue thread. Madeira probably has the shade you're looking for. Like Doc says, if you use Madeira PolyNeon 40, use a couple coats of CP. On real light colored threads, I like to do a short test wrap to see how many coats of CP to put on - might need more than a couple. Stan Re: blue thread

Thanks very much for all this very good information.
Is the Madeira Polyneon 40 thread suitable for wrapping guides? Re: blue thread

James,
YES!!!! It's fine with rods (Well, not sure on a Marlin rod!) Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: blue thread

James, I would try epoxy or Duragloss without CP on the Royal & Cobalt threads. They will darken without CP. Ed Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
