Spinning rod - from fly blank?

I would like to make a 2 piece spinning rod from a fly blank. My question is, which weight blank to use. It will be used to throw 1/4 to 1/2 oz. lures. Is there a formula to determine the proper blank choice? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys for the help.

Use 16 as a numerator so If you want to throw 1/4-1/2oz lures you would be looking at 6-8 wt
8 over 16 is 1/2 that will get you close enough

Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it..

Sorry ! I didn't give enough information as to the type species I'll be seeking. I live on the gulf coast, and will be seeking the texas big three, red drum, speckled trout, and flounder. I really like the idea of a two piece 7ft. rod for transporting in the trunk of a car. If the fly rod thing isn't a good choice for this purpose, any suggestions? Thanks for the speedy reply, you guys are great.

There are a lot of 2 and 3 piece spinning rods that will work. Something in the 8 to 17-20 lb class would work I think. Rainshadow makes a series in the RX6 graphite SP843-3, Angler's Workshop has some in their shop blanks in IM6 the 8 to 20 lb model works well. The TSP70MH3, the following blanks are US made blanks, but they are more money than the inport Rainshadow. St Croix GI70MF3, Lamiglas IMP844-3, G Loomis P844-2. These blanks are a little heavier than I'd use on ladyfish, and a little lighter than what I'd use on flounder/fluke. There are also so 6 ft 6 in 2 piece spin jig blanks out there.

Bob, call Andy @ LAMAR FISHING. I just ordered from Andy two closeout Allstar high-modulus Titanium blanks that match perfectly your requirements. The blank is BAST845S-2 (2-pc, spinning, 7ft, 8-17lb, 1/4-5/8oz).
