Finish Application Tip

Used a new idea yesterday for applying finish at the edge of wraps and at the tunnels. Took a length of wrapping thread. Apply finish to about an inch or so of the thread near the middle. Now thread between the guide feet on double foots, pull the line taunt and slide the thread against the foot until the finish rubs itself off at the application point. Tunnel filled. now hold the thread against the edge of the wrap and pull the finish covered section through to edge the wrap with finish. Hold the thread now 180° to last action and pull along the rest of the wrap edge. Then apply a bit more finish to the thread and do the outer wrap edges.

This allows for a very clean line of finish sealing the edge of the wraps, is very quick, and works very well for application to single foots with very small distance from blank to ext. ring, which easily coats the locking wraps under the ring and fills the tunnel.

Toothpick application to the tunnel works fine on larger guides, but for the smaller tip end guides, it is very hard to get a drop of the right size and the drop tends to hang just up above the tip. A much finer application is achieved with the thread application tech. Also, much easier to get a clean line without developing high skills needed with other techniques.
