Duane,

First I have to say I'm a big fan ofthe Matrix product line. Having said that I've had no problem with the spin/cast. Well made looks great. I have had a minor problem with the fly reel seat. On some fly reels the feet seem to be to large for the grooves and they were 3,4,5 wgt reels.

I don't use the Matrix reel seats. But I do use the green tubing. I buy it in 5ft lengths and cut it to the size I want. It is my favorite stuff for handles. I also use grey in a smaller diameter. Been using it for about twenty years with out any problems.

Unfortunately, there is no standard for reel foot size in the fly fishing industry. They vary widely, much more so than any casting or spinning reels.

There was two full Matrix rods, spin & cast, at the western rodbuilders get together at Lamiglas last year. Something about the combination seemed heavier than I thought it would be when I picked them up. Other than that they were very nice looking and probably fine rods.

Steve, where can you purchase lengths of the woven green or grey graphite fibers that are used in the reel seats? I recently used a Pac Bay woven green graphite reel seat instead of the Matrix only because it was available in an uplocking configuration that hides within the hood of the cork grip rather than Matrix's uplocking fly reel seat that requires the collar below. I've seen brown also available in some factory reel seats, is that color an option as well. As always, thanks for your help.
