Smoother surface to wind thread up against for dummies like me that forget to lathe it straight before reaming it too big, but if customers ask, it's a pretty!

mmm well said putter its just an "anti cock up device" but it does make the wraps look neater (so long as you dont put it on crooked )

Usually you have a nice nickel silver ring on the hood of your real seat that butts up against your grip. The winding check compliments the front of the grip.

And you can have them in nylon, rubber, aluminum in several colors as well as hosels in all the same material choices ... and if you do bamboo you can have round ones and hexagonal ones too to misplace!
