Question RE:2007 National Rod Builders Show (Next Years Show)

Tom or anyone else who has this info,

I recently realized how much I really, really wanted to go to this years NRBS. My rod building, at least for now, is basicly a hobby and it 's hard to justify (at least to my wife) flying across the U.S.for this two day show.

My question is; what are the dates for next years show?

I know I can come up with a plan to justify attending next years show if I have a year to do so.

I assume it'll again be in Charlotte, NC next year, but please confirm.

I sure wish the show would come to California, but if the show won't come to me I'll figure out a way to go to it.

Thanks,

Rich Matranga

From what I understand the dead sea scrollsare in Charlotte the same time as the show this year.Maybe you can play that angle to get permission to go!!sometimes making it a multipurpose trip can justify the trip.

I really don't know how to convey to your wife that this show is "worth" the two day long distance trip. All I can say is that this isn't just some small local gathering of a few dozen rod builders. It is the largest rod building event in the world and features the broadest scope of educational seminars and product displays ever seen. Besides being able to see, touch and feel nearly any and every rod building product on the market, you can advance your own skills rapidly by attending the seminars and demonstrations of your choice.

I guess I tend to justify things in the context of the fact that I'm not going to live forever. If you don't take the time to do a few of the things you enjoy doing or want to see, do or accomplish in your lifetime, then really, what is the point of being around? Of course, it also comes down to a matter of expenses quite often and I'm well aware of that. But if you can afford it and you think you'd enjoy it, why not? And if never hurts if you let the wife take a trip of her choosing during the year, or can find something in Charlotte she might enjoy seeing as well. There is a page full of local attractions on the official show website, link is top left of the sponsors column.

The event will again be in Charlotte next year and about the same time - the last weekend in February. It could be a week earlier but we haven't gotten that far into the dates, yet.

I learned more in two days than I could have learned in two years. I went to last years show and could not believe the whole thing. Just talking to these people about various aspects of rod building and seeing the real hands on work easily justifies attendance. You can almost buy a years supply of blanks at huge discounts to pay for the plane ticket. I would recommend bringing a large diameter PVC pipe to take the rods home with you. There is so much more going on this year I already know that I cannot do it all. I know I'll need to come back in 2007. The program this year is appears to be far better than last year with more vendors and Rodbuilders showing thier poducts.

It is unfortunate that we all don't live within 2 hours of Charlotte. I.m sure the attendance would be more than the Conviention Center could handle.

Tom, are the doors going to open at 9AM Saturday with two day admission at $24.00? Best investment I have ever made.

Thanks for all the responses. There is no way I can make it this year, as much as I'd like to. I have already come up with a plan (Allan, I like your idea and its along the idea of my plan) and if it works out, and I'm sure it will, I'll see you all next year. I consider the NRBS to be the INDY 500 for rod builders. I'll update later on my plan. If it works maybe others could use it to get to next years show. I can only imagine how excited those going to this years show are, because I'm already excited about next years show!
