Just finishing my first rod builing project, a SAGE Xi2 #8. Unforunately the rod turned out nice, so I guess I have to build another one.
Can't afford buying Sage blanks all the time, so am wondering about which blanks I should choose. See that Gatti and Lamiglas are used alot, but they are not familiar here(in Norway). Anyway I will order them from the US, but wondering about the quality/performance/costs. I will build a #5 weight 4 piece rod, with comparable action to the Sage SLT. Would appreciate any comments regarding Gatti, Lamiglas (or others?) Svein Re: Quality blanks- reasonable price, Gatti Lamiglas????

There are plenty of good quality, high performance rod blanks other than Sage. In addition to those you mentioned, St. Croix, Rainshadow, Loomis, Shikari, CTS, etc., etc., etc. There are very few poor quality blanks being sold these days as first quality product. Also take a look at the offerings from Pac Bay, American Tackle, etc., as there are some real bargains to be had in very nice blanks these days. In fact, if anything, we have too many choices!

YEAH! what HE said! :-) jeez, in my head i have dizzying combinations of fly rod blanks and components in my head's queue and none of them involve the major manufacturer's big name blanks. all are under $100US, many under $75US. batsons' RX6, RX7+, lamiglass spring creek, tiger eye, pac bay tradition II, rainforest II, AT matrix, etc.

A real favorite on this board (and anyone who tries 'em) are the DanCraft blanks. Light, fast, reasonably priced. A "see-'em-to-believe-'em" product.
