They all attempt to do the same thing - seal the threads preventing the top coat finish from causing them to turn transparent. It is a matter of cosmetics.

There is only one good thing that can happen with color perserver and that is for it to do what it is suppose to do. There are several things that can go wrong for no apparant reason, does'nt take at all, takes only in spots, etc, etc, etc.Is it worth the effort to spent hours on the thread work and have it ruined by the CP. Not to me, I quit using the stuff many years and thousands of rods ago. Learn what the regular thread looks like without CP {color stick}. A good example is Gudebrod 245 NCP underwrap with 245 Regular overwrap with no CP. You get a super two tone blue. Most of my rods have a metallic underwrap with black overwrap, can't go wrong. Jesse

I use Flex Coat color preserver and have had no problems with it. I always use 2 coats, letting the first coat dry completely before applying the second coat. When I first started building rods, I had difficulty at times with coverage using only one coat of color preserver. You can get nice results not using preserver, but it effectively eliminates a lot of variations in thread colors.
