Line slap - large loops vs small loops question.

I happen to read an article on the web from a site about butt guide placement geared towards surf rods. But the interesting part was mention of the 3 things which determined that distance; diameter of the spool, line type (mono or braided), and line test (thichness). The article went on to say that the heavier (and stiffer) lines created larger loops coming of the spool than did smaller (less stiff) lines - makes sense to me - and these larger loops created "more line" slap than the smaller loops. But I didn't bookmark the article and now I can't find it again.
Soooooo...... using the same reel and butt guide size, the article would suggest that the butt guide placement would be different for controlling these two loop sizes. And if so, which butt guide location controls the larger coils from the heavier and stiffer line - further or closer to the spool face - compared with the smaller coils from lighter and less stiff line? Thanks. Re: Line slap - large loops vs small loops question.

Tim,
Well you could search for "the new concept guide system" not FUJI new concept guides. You may need a HH guide, FUJI HVSG40HH. then a HVSG25H , then down to some standard hight guides. But I don't know your spool dia. , blank length. Want strong line, why don't you try the braided line then you can forget about loop size comming off spool. Thanks for the response David but it doesn't answer my question - which direction reduces large loop line slap? Re: Line slap - large loops vs small loops question.

Tim,
It is my experiance that line slap is caused by the butt guide being to close to the reel or the ring being to small or both. Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Line slap - large loops vs small loops question.

If the guide is too small you need to move it away from reel. or just get proper guide dia. size, also may need the higher type. The line will slap blank because ring is too small, moving it is not the way to correct line slap. Dave von Doehren PRRODS......If man built it , man can fix it.and if man built it man can break it !
