Any of you use these grips yet? How do you like them? I'm thinking about ordering some. Appreciate the feedback. Gene

i've used two. nice grips. heavier, denser than normal cork of course since they are made of cork particles glued together but much different than standard "burl cork" i've seen in wide use. personally, i find it much nicer. they are the color of normal cork, with splotches of slightly darker cork. throughout are very small speckles of white. it's a very nice effect. i wish pacific bay offered them in cork rings since they only offer them in two styles for my fly rods.

I got a fly grip of bamboo burl that was broken during shipment, cut it down and made a butt and fore grip for an ultra-light spin rod I am building. I put cork sealer on it and it turned much darker than regular cork does which made the grain stand out even more. I can agree with what Eric said about it creating a very nice looking effect.

Gene,

i've build three flyrod handles using the bamboo burl...

the first a 3 wt. i had difficulties with the burl when sanding it to smaller dia.

see here:

also finished an 8wt

and a 7wt

all in all i like the bamboo burl and agree witih Eric, i wish pacific bay would offer it in rings.

I'll be completing a dan craft sig V 5wt with the same bamboo burl cork handle when the blanks finally arrives, sometime soon i hope...

cheers!

Marc,
I'm willing to help with the Cream Ale part any time. Beautiful work - especially on flattening the grip where the reel feet settle.

the only thing finer than building your own rod might be tying your own flies.

cheers!
