I received a call today from a potential customer who wants a 8ft. 20lb.Mod/fast to fast action heavy(?) power rod for big Striper in fast water (Tennasee River) and I need assistance choosing a blank for him. I usually build fly or ultra light / light rods so I'm unfamiliar with this category of blanks. Thanks in advance. Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. What does he plan to fish on it-bucktail jigs, or live bait ,or crank baits, or just building general purpose rod?. The answer this question may influence the type of blank he'll need. Re: Long Striper rod, blank help

Steve, I don't have those details, yet. For the sake of a ballpark answer, let us assume a general purpose rod. Ralph Re: Long Striper rod, blank help

A very popular Blank in the Batson Enterprises - Rainshadow line is the SW967 = RX4( Graphite/Glass composite), 8', 1pc ( Also comes in 2pc) 15-25lb test, 1/2 - 2 oz lure wt, Mod/Fast action. I personally use this blank for Sturgeon and jigging for Lingcod in the Great Northwest. Another great blank is our SWB80M = E-Glass, 8', 1pc, 15-25lb test, 1/2 - 2 oz lure wt, Mod/Fast action....

I built on two of the SW967's and really do like them. That blank is very versitile and could even be used as a light surf casting blank for bottom fishing yet good enough to cast plugs or jigs. I plan to build two more as spinning rods to cast Launchers with jigs to be used for stripper fishing in our lakes. By Launcher I mean the float that Flex Coat sells. Re: Long Striper rod, blank help

Thank you Bill, Ellis. I'll use the SW967, hopefully the 2pc. model. Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Re: Long Striper rod, blank help

For those of you who build Swim Bait rods The Rain Shadow SW967's fit the bill perfectly. I find these blanks to be very useful for many applications. Try one and you will be building more.
