Rainshadow RX7 in higher weights

I was wondering what you guys think of them? I built a 7'9'' 3-wt. from an rx7 a couple years ago, and it still ranks as one of my favorite trout rods. Now I'm thinking about building an 8 wt. out of an rx7--for snook and reds down in Florida--but I have no idea what their action is like. (I'd check out the CCS data, but to be honest, I'm not sophisticated enough as a builder for those numbers to mean much to me.) I found my three weight to be pretty light, moderately fast in action, and effortless to cast. Can I expect some of the same out of an 8 wt. blank in this product line?

Happy New Year to everyone,

Dave

Dave,

Heaviest I've built is a 6 weight, which I use for bass and pike.

Unusually powerful blank for it's weight. I have them from 2 weights on up to 6, and I can say I like all of them. I'd call the action on the 6 a medium fast.

Favorite of all are the 9 foot 3 weights.

Good Luck!

Buddy

Dave,

I built an 8 weight for a friend last year and I was inpressed with the results. He used it for Salmon and large Trout all year and he swares by it. I still like my Dan Craft FT a bit better, but then I like my FT better than my Loomis IMX (Slate) and is my favorite 8wt. I'm sure the RX7 will serve you well (lighter than some, powerful, regged, and casts vrey nice).

Good Luck

Denis

The 10 ft 8 weights 2 piece have been popular for steelhead and I use one. One of the bigger flyshops uses them on their shop rods in the same length and weight. The 9ft 8 wt 4 piece is Medium fast action rated correctly for it's line class.

Thanks for everyone's input. I think I'll give this blank a shot.
