I have searched the archives but could not find what I want. I know this has been talked about here. What weight flyrod blank would make a good 7' 0" ultra-light spinning rod? Re: Ultralight spinning rod from fly blank

Take the number rating on the rod, for instance a "3-weight." And make that the numerator and 16 the denominator. That will give you a rough idea of the casting weight range. So in this case, 3 over 16 or 3/16th ounce lure weight.
This is only a rough guestimate but should put you in the ballpark. Generally I think you'd want to stay with a 2 or 3 weight for a true ultralight type spinning rod. Anything above that is going to be a bit stout, in my opinion. ..................... Re: Ultralight spinning rod from fly blank

I'd stay with a 1 or 2 weight if you want a really really ultralight. American Tackle has a great little 7' 2/3 weight in their matrix series and has a fast action. I like it for fly or spin. If you want a more traditional trout type ultralight then look at the Tiger Eye blanks in the 7' 3 wt. They're very good if you want a full flexing ultralight. Dan Craft 701-2 Sig III series seems like it'd make a nice little rod for throwing little spinners...1/8oz max. Scott Kinney The Longest Cast Fly Rods [www.thelongestcast.com] Re: Ultralight spinning rod from fly blank

I just got a Dan Craft FRS III 2 wt 8 ft. Guy wants a really-really light spinner. This from what I can see - have not built yet - is going to make a nice ulta, ultra light rod. Going to put Titans on. Will stick some on tomorrow and see how the blank holds them. Light as a feather. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
