Hi. I've not built a fly rod rod in several years. At that time Duragloss Supreme was fairly new. I used it on three rods with excellent results. I know that these finishes change and new ones come out. Is Duragloss Supreme still a good choice? Are other finishes a better choice today?
Thanks for any help you can provide. Tony Re: Duragloss Supreme

I have had excellent luck with LS Supreme but have now begun using the "High Build" version. It is truly a one coat epoxy and can also be applied as a light coat. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: Duragloss Supreme

For fly rods I'like to use a base coat of 1 part Permagloss , then a finish coat of LS Supreme (2 part finish) regular . But I have tried the new Threadmaster finish on the last rod that I built last week , and I think I have a new 2 part finish now. The threadmaster is nice stuff , and easy to work with . I'm a big fan of Duragloss LS Supreme. I've used it for years now with good results. That being said, I tried LS Supreme hi-build earlier this year, and I'm now using it almost exclusively. The hi-build formula immediately got rid of the few finishing problems I was still having. And remember, just because a finish says it's hi-build doesn't mean you can only put on a thick coat. You can put on a very thin coat of any epoxy finish, depending on your application tool and methods.
Since I still have some LS Supreme around, I typically use it for my first flood coat, then I take every single bit of excess off, back down to the threads. Then, after cutting off my fuzzies, I use LS Supreme Hi-build for the second coat. I've had really good results doing this. Re: Duragloss Supreme

LS Supreme Hi-Build is my favorite, to date, as well. Haven't tried Andy's Threadmaster yet, but will.Stan Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
