cork tape question
Posted by: Will Whitaker (---.proxy.aol.com)

I'm sorry to bother you all but I am new to rod building and have a question. I know, hard to believe a newbie with only one question. I had some cork tape given to me along with the rod wrapper I bought and it seems that the cork tape is older and the adhesive has dried up. Is this cork take junk or can it be used somehow or for something?

Thank you in advance for you time and any help and insight you might be able to provide.

It might be useful for something, but probably not for making rod grips. I supposed you could adhere it with all sorts of things - 3M 777 spray adhesive, or even epoxy, but I think in terms of time and effort, you'll be better off just getting some fresh stock.

At local fishing tackle swap meets I have bought older cork that was no longer stickey on the back. Rough up the blank were the cork tape goes and put a thin coat of epoxy on the blank and wrap, works great.

Overtime the cork tape that is on your rod will have to be repaired or replaced a dificult task if it has been epoxied on. My advice would be not to glue it on but as Tom has said you would be better off with fresh material. Around $35 for 100 feet for the 1/16 thick material. Money and time well spent

Ditto Tom and Jay
Learn to work with "new" materials the correct way before experimenting. Easier to achieve the results you are after.

go to a golf store ask for there double face tape $6.00 a roll.it will hold the tape down .that to old .

I Like 1/16" cord tape.. i use a double face golf tape [$6.00] before putting on the cork tape.

golf tape to the left at 45 deg. then cork tape to the right.at deg.

the use of the double face tape is some time the cork dry out .

and if you have to add one more layer of cork tape do the same as above.

it's keep the tape tighter to the blank.
