I would like to turn a wooden grip for use on a saltwater fly rod and finish it with Tru Oil.Has anyone experienced any problems such as swelling or cracking due to salt ingress or tropical weather (not that we get much in England ! ).
Also I would like to buff the finish to matt or satin rather than gloss. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Steve Re: wooden grips

You aren't likely to have much trouble if the wood is well sealed. Plenty of guys with wooden stocks get used in the same environment and they hold up just fine. And many are finished with Tru-Oil.

Multiple coats of Miniwax satin Wipe On poly. The regular polys dry too fast. The Tru-oil would also work. 600 grit sandpaper will take off the gloss from the Tru-oil. Re: wooden grips
