REgarding UV exposure epoxy yellowing. I made 3 test sticks last year. One I put out in Februar for 2 months, and there was very little change. I did naother with other epoxies, sticuck it out in July. After 2 days everything except Aftcote was yellowing. I took teh one I had out in teh sun back in February into the sun, and surprise - in 2 days, that one started to yellow. I took Andy's finish with teh other ones & have it sitting in front o f my house since early October - and there is very, very little change, although the ones which previously yellowed have started to slightly turn.
Emory - I have a rod I've used 25 trips in the last 6 weeks which I used Threadmaster on. THE butt wrap gets abused, each time I crank up I rest it on the stainless steel rails - and it has held up tremendously. TEH rod I have Aftcote on (which I did use about 30 times last year, and 25 times this0 teh guides are all messed up. IMO, from these 2 rods - Threadmaster is much mroe scuff resistant than Aftcote. Flxibility - I have 9 or 10 guides on the rod, and I have had one guide foot crack. I do not blame the epoxy, I blame my less than stellar guide foot prep, as my belt sander belt was worn out an dI was waiting for shipment on a new belt, I just wrpaped teh guide with barely any of it ground the way I normally do. However, all teh rest of teh guides on teh rod are absolutely perfect, even with minimal grinding. One thing I dont' like about Threadmaster, is I havent' been able to catch any big fish with teh rod I have it on. I'm deperately trying to change that. lol. Maybe Andy will sell magic luck dust to sprinkle into teh epoxy so I'll be able to catch more & bigger fish? lol. Re: Thread Master

Billy,
Fishing and luck??? I think that fishing is a lot like playing poker. Any unskilled poker player can sit down and be dealt a winning hand. Over the short haul luck has a lot to do with the outcome but over the long haul luck does not have anything to do with who wins and who loses. The skilled poker player will always end up with the money if you give him or her enough time. Fishing is the same. Over the short haul luck can be the dominant factor but over the long haul luck does not have anything to do with the outcome when fishing. If you are counting on getting lucky I think that you should sprinkle Andy's magic luck dust on something other than your fishing rod. You figure out what. Re: Thread Master

I have to agree with Putter, I have not notice any yellowing of "one coat" and I live in tropical Queensland, Australia. Where everyday is extreme UV. The real test of this finish would be to send a test stick to me here, like Mick Comesky did with his thread/finish fade test he sent to me to have it really put to the test, what is done to it in just one week here in the sun would be equivalent to probably a year over there except for the cold extremes. Myles,
The 1 Coat is a good finish, in fact, just about all the finishes on the market are good finishes. They all do the job adequately, but do have some drawbacks. In terms of the 1 Coat, I don't think it is anything groundbreaking in terms of chemistry and technology, but like I told Randy, if you are satisfied with it, then don't change.....it won't bother me or anyone else for that matter one bit. But I think when it comes to yellowing we all need to realize something.....ALL 2 part epoxies yellow...everyone of them, including 1 Coat and ThreadMaster and all the others. The key is how long can you prevent the breakdown and degradation that causes the yellowing, not can you stop it all together. Andy Re: Thread Master
