Andy:
I was looking at the CTS blanks I'm in the process of building a drop shot rod using a St Croix M/L/F 6'6" blank. How do the CTS blanks compare? and how much would a comperable blank weigh? What is your overall opinion of the CTS blanks for bass fishing? Re: Question for Andy Dear

Hi Lu,
Well CTS currently has several blank models that will work well for the DropShot technique What you want to look at is the baitcast series in the 6'6", probably in the Extra Fast series. You didn't say which St. Croix series you're looking at, but the only one comparable in quality and weight would be the SCV. CTS blanks overall are very light, very crisp and very straight. Their current blank lineup is manufactured to the philosophy of stiff butt/mid and light tip. The baitcast series is powerful in the butt and mid section, but the tip has a bit of, shall we say "personality" to it, instead of neing a "Mag" type taper....does that make sense. The spinning series is slightly more parabolic in action, and aproximately 20% less stiff in the mid to mid-tip section. Of course I think the light tip/strong mid is perfect for drop-shot fishing. You've got just enough play in the tip to impart action to the lure, but a very quick "lock-up" as CTS calls it for a quick solid hookset. The CTS product is really a standout, in terms of technology and overall quality....and I am not just saying that because I am a distributor....that is the very reason I became a CTS distributor. I do have the blank in stock you're looking for I believe....feel free to email me direct or call if you have any questions. Regards, Andy Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
