I am new to this forum but not so new at rod building and I was wandering if anyone would offer up some good advice on feather inlays or a web site or book. I truly wont to start building fly rods like the ones on this site but I can not seem to find a good source detailing the steps in doing a feather inlay. Thanks for any help. Brent,
Check your E-mail! I just sent you a tutorial. You might want to also use the SEARCH feature near the top of this page and type in feather and check ALL DATES and you will get a lot of info Mike P.S. - Anyone wanting a copy - E-MAIL ME! I will NOT respond to any posts requesting it as all that does is take up space here Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/15/2005 01:25PM by Mike Barkley. Re: Serious help with feather inlays..

I'd start with the Mike Barkley tutorial, but in general, once you get it, just practice, practice, practice. If you use color preserver rather than Permagloss, you can easily put feathers on, then remove them if you don't like them.... It really isn't hard to get the basics down, so just go for it. The more complex stuff, like multi-feather designs, etc... that requires more thought, but in general it's the same priciples :) -- Cheers -- James Re: Serious help with feather inlays..

You might also try Siskiyou Aviary's site, sponsor on the left. They have a tutorial on there by Bob Meiser. Bill in WV Re: Serious help with feather inlays..

I do want to point out that I did not write the tutorial. It was written by Terry Henson! I just converted it to PDF format and pass it around (with Terry's permission)

Mike,
I got your email with the tutorial and thanks again! That would make a good library article. Tom? Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/15/2005 08:45PM by Raymond_Adams. Re: Serious help with feather inlays..

I belive the best info on this subject is in the volume 2 number 1 issue of Rodmaker. I also think it's one of the back issues that Tom is closing out in the near future. Might want to act now if you want a copy. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
