I am starting to refinish an old rod and after having done a serch it seems that Permagloss is popular for the top clear coat over the automotive paints. I know I can find a ton of Dupli-color in a spray can, my question is,---- is Permagloss available in an spray can? If not, does anyone have a sugestion as to what else I could use? Do I have to use a top coat? I have been thinking about a semi gloss finish. If I shoot a coat of Permagloss over that it's going to be high gloss then correct? Has anyone tried the flexible paints for bumpers? "I'd rather be fish'n" Re: Permagloss?

Permagloss is not available in a spray can.
Get some regular old coffee filters. Pour a small amount on a filter and make one complete pass on the rod. If dries in less than a hour and then re-coat if needed. Christian Re: Permagloss?

Hello Ted
Permagloss should not be sprayed. There are several techniques that work well to apply it. Christian has suggest a very good one another is to use a spong brush -available in a hobby or paint store. Cut a small slit in it then saturate it with Permagloss and insert the rod tip and pull it slowly through the saturated spong brush. What ever technique is used for best results apply thin coats. Allow the first coat to dry before recoating. 2 to 4 hours is sufficent unless covering with epoxy then it should cure for 6 or 8 hours and best to let it dry overnight. It is a humidity curing urathane product and will release gases for quite some time even though it is dry to the touch. I have used it often in fish camps to repair rods that need to go fishing in a few hours. It is a very tough clear finish.
