I just wanted to get some feedback on which retail rod building shops the readers thought sold the best quality cork rings. I have ordered cork from a variety of shops over the last few years. Although it seems that quality I have recieved from most shops has declined over the last few years, it seems that Goldenwitch consistently has the best cork. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks. Re: Best Cork Rings

Andy Dear at Lamar has actual CG1 grade cork. Best I've seen in over 40 years of rod building. Re: Best Cork Rings

i don't think a debate on who has the best or worst cork would be approprate . Re: Best Cork Rings

Joe,
I do understand your opinion. However, I spend $100's a year in cork, I have been getting frustrated on what I have been able to get. As a said before, I think the cork quailty in gerneral has been declining. So I simply wanted to get some avenues to try. I was not trying to put anyone donw, just trying to find a few sources to try. Thanks. Re: Best Cork Rings

Is it wrong to want to get the best product we can for our money? I didn't see anyone named as having worst cork, just two sponsors that may have some of the best. Re: Best Cork Rings

As long as no one is blasting anyone, I would just look at it as a recommendation, not a negative opinion of anyone. Buying cork is a crapshoot at best, so any help is ablessing. Because of quality, I've gone to Burl, wood,EVA exclusively and I don't think that my saying so is a knock against any vendors. They are pretty much stuck with what they can get also.

If I was looking for high quality cork, I would buy it from Andy Dear. After reading his posts on this board and talking to him on-line, I feel he really knows his stuff. He seems to be a straight shooter and a man of his word. He states he has some of the best cork on the market and I believe him. Don't get me wrong, I believe all the fine sponsors to the left are great. I have never had a bad experience with any of the ones I have had contact with, but for the best cork, I would go with Andy.

Angler's Workshop also has some good cork, when they can get it. The last I heard some was coming soon, but was already spoken for. Re: Best Cork Rings
