I have recently become aware of the "Reel Lock" seats sold by Phillipson and am surprised that they are not still commonly used in place of rings on Tennessee grip assemblies. It appears that they lock a reel in place quite well and could be further improved by being manufactured in graphite versions.
I would be interested in the pros and cons to these seats by those that have experience in using them. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: Reel Lock seats

I've not used one. Perhaps somebody else has.

I've used them and as you know, Stan, I think they're pretty neat. Main pro is that they are more secure than rings. Main con is that they can be slightly cold when in the spinning position during cold weather. I agree with you that if a modern version was available constructed out of graphite, they would be hot sellers. Ideal seat for spin/fly combo or just for giving you the flexibility to fish with our without a fighting butt. They are not high quality precision-machined seats by any stretch, but it's a very functional design and why it has dropped from use, I have no idea. Patent issue?? Edited 1 time(s).
