ot - custom lures - Balsa

I apologize for this off-topic item, but given the similarity of activity.

Who also is making custom balsa lures? soft plastics? What resources (internet) is there?

I have been thinking of custom plastics for crab appendages and ultralight balsa lures. Given the detail for quality craftmanship for fishing on this board, I am hoping some people here could point on another branch of fishing.

Bass wood is good also just a little harder than Balsa and almost as light.

David,

I have not use balsa but I have been making bass lures for a while out of bass wood. It can be carved but I use a mini lathe. Bass wood is a light wood just like Bill said but not as soft as balsa. I use an airbrush to paint the lures with life like bait fish patterns. After that I apply Flex Coat for a good durable finish. I also buy plastic lure bodies and airbrush them too. If you Google "making fishing lures" you'll get a lot of info.

Rich,

Was wondering where you get your plastic lure bodies from. I use to be able to get a small shallow diver from Jann's Netcraft, but they no longer will sell it in the unpainted version. I need to find another source if possible and have not been able to come up with any as of yet.
