For those of you wanting to do some wood turning but not wanting the cost of a lathe, I came across this the other day.

Might be the answer for some for getting started in wood turning.

It will certainly work. A past issue of RodMaker showed how to make a similar unit for far less money, but this one is't really all that expensive. Worth a look.

Both those setups don't show how you adjust the tool rest. I only have limited experience with the wood lathe (prefer a machine lathe: mechanical engineering in a previous uni life), and I remember having to adjust the rest closer to the work as you reduce the diameter. I am very interested in building that sort of setup for my drill press at home, and would like to try wood handles in addition to cork.

well for the Penn State one, it looks like there is a bolt on the base of the tool rest to allow it to pivot. Not sure about the one I posted. I just cam across it and thought it might be usefull for someone. Myself I use a Jet mini lathe right now.

Right you are Mike. Thanks for that. I am pretty sure I can make that quite easily.
