For those of you wanting to do some wood turning but not wanting the cost of a lathe, I came across this the other day.
[www.specialtyfurnituredesigns.com] Might be the answer for some for getting started in wood turning. Re: vertical wood turning

It will certainly work. A past issue of RodMaker showed how to make a similar unit for far less money, but this one is't really all that expensive. Worth a look.

Both those setups don't show how you adjust the tool rest. I only have limited experience with the wood lathe (prefer a machine lathe: mechanical engineering in a previous uni life), and I remember having to adjust the rest closer to the work as you reduce the diameter. I am very interested in building that sort of setup for my drill press at home, and would like to try wood handles in addition to cork. Re: vertical wood turning

well for the Penn State one, it looks like there is a bolt on the base of the tool rest to allow it to pivot. Not sure about the one I posted. I just cam across it and thought it might be usefull for someone. Myself I use a Jet mini lathe right now. Re: vertical wood turning

Right you are Mike. Thanks for that. I am pretty sure I can make that quite easily. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
