Fighting butt

So I was epoxying my grip and reelseat on and I didn't ream enough and put too much epoxy on so the handle and reelseat are about an inch short of being where they are supposed to be. Now I have a 1 inch section of blank sticking out the back of my reelseat.
Should I;
A: cut it off
B: cover it up with a fighting butt
The rod is a 10 foot 5 weight.

Thank you for your help gentlemen.

Bryan,
You can either cut it off or what I might do my self is take all of the grip off and reel seat and start over. But if this rod is for yourself then I would just cut the inch off the butt end and just remember next time you build a rod, make sure everything is were you want it to be.

I would fashion a fighting butt. Actually, I would probably have put on one to start with. I like "fighting butts" on all my rods except for the very lightest, shortests. The reason for the quotes is that except for the ones intended for SW, they are not so much "fighting" butts as "keep the reel and seat out of the dirt" butts.

Bryan , I'm with Steve on this one . You can get a 1" cork / EVA cap at just about any of the sponsors . REC has nice ones with cork and composit cork on the end , they come pe-bored and with a little carefull fitting will look great on your rod . It may even help ballance a rod of that lenght which tend to be a bit tip heavy . Have fun , JHD
