Easy one for me...my young bride wanted to help do underwraps on the new lathe. I showed her how to lay down the thread while gently packing with a dental tool (the old Clemens type with small and large cupped ends)...any how, she's sitting on the stool and the tool slipped off the bench, destined for the floor directly beneath her. Her reaction was to try to catch it between her legs before it got out of reach, by bringing her parted legs together quickly...wouldn't you know, the twirling tool was perfectly parrallel with the floor during this move and her left knee drove the smaller pointy end into her lower right thigh just above the knee.....she comes into the living room holding her knee and all I see is blood pouring out between her fingers...Grab a towel, off to the Emergency Room.....she was taken care of with stitches etc...and we were both separately questioned IN DIFFERENT ROOMS on how the accident happened. When we realized we were being questioned for "spousal abuse" (a hospital standard) ...I decided that her doing underwraps..was abuse!
Sure beats the time the exacto knife rolled off the bench, does a "triple gainer", and landed perfectly vertical into the top of my foot!!! (barefoot) Be careful...and have a good weekend! LOL. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/18/2005 06:25PM by Michael Joyce. Re: Friday Follies- worse injury

When first starting out I built a power wrapper out of oak and a sewing machine motor.Afew weeks later I decided to lengthen the bed by using a router table to remove 1/2 the thickness of both boards so they would fit together flush and be screweed together.Well the board kicked back as I was pushing it through and my finger continued on.The middle digit of my left hand(I`m a south paw) got chewed to the bone.It was a rainy memorial day weekend and I did`nt feel like going to the hospital(1 mile away, too far) so I wraped and splinted it and had a few cold Buds topped off with a few Molsons topped off with some Cabo Wabo Tequila. The finger was hamburger but healed quite well.Still to this day it is sensative and some times refuses to bend and stands straight up when when I shake a fist at an inconsiderate boater that ran through the bait or waked us out.It did get me light duty in work for a month though so that wasn`t too bad. Sticking a left index finger in an attic fan provided me with an excuse for lack of skill at decorative threadwork. Somewhat like Fred, I decided to treat it with medicinal gin. That finger has a permanent bend at the first joint, decreased sensation & interferes a bit with some nasal manuevers.

Oh man, that's wild. The worse I've done was slice myself cutting a guide wrap off. Razor slid off the guide foot and opened my thumb.

Hey Michael,
Sorry to here about the little lady, but I think you have let the cat out of the bag. I always wondered how you could keep turning out those butt wraps as quick as you do, now with the little lady out of action we will probably see less photos of your work. LOL. On a serious side I hope she is OK and recovers fast without any ill effect. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
