Guide Sizes

I'm building a 7' 3wt bamboo fly rod from a blank, and I am going to use traditional snakes. I've built many fly rods before, but I have always used single foot guides and have zero experience using traditional snakes. What size guides do y'all recommend I use/purchase? I'm going to be using a 9mm agate stripping guide. Thanks

others may differ but i would say go with a #2 after the stripper a #1 next and then go 1/0 the rest of the way to the tip. some folks might recommend going even smaller. after all this is a 3wt and the line is not large in diameter. your 9mm agate stripper will probably have an internal diameter of 5mm (.20) and that should be fine for a three wt. as for guides, snake brand has some really nice bronze snakes that i am using on
a 4wt bamboo blank that i just aquired. minimal guide foot prep is one of the nice features of the snake brand guides. REC carries them. i do prep them some especially when i use a transparent wrap.
