5 ft. bass rod?

Hi, I need some help from some of you experts. Today I guy asked me if I could make him an "old style" pistol grip casting rod, 5 feet long. He uses 20# line for spinnerbait fishing. I am having a tough time finding such a blank, or anything even close. Anybody have any ideas?
I was thinking about maybe cutting down a 6 ft. blank. I know this will make it slower, but if I started wiith an extra-fast it might be ok.
I really want to do this for this guy, as he fishes tournaments and has a lot of contacts around here.
Thanks
Steve Broadwell

If you can get him out to a 5' 6" blank, the Lamiglas XC66M at Mudhole in the discontinued blank section. The Certified Pro Lamiglas have a great history of performance & reliability.

Then you can cut 6 in. off of the butt end and make him his 5 ft. rod. Ralph

If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again.

If you shorten a blank from the butt end, then yes, you will have slower action, and less power, simply because of the way these properties are measured. But in actual practice, because of the way a pistol-grip rod is used, the user won't notice much difference compared to a more conventional rod with a longer butt, built on the uncut blank. Hardly any difference in casting and working a lure. Fighting a big fish, the loss in power would be noticed.

Steve,
I believe I have some AllStar blanks made specifically for pistol grip rods...they are 5 foot I think maybe just a bit longer.
Call or meial and we can discuss the details!

Sounds like the same guy I just built one for ??
Check out St Croix

Check with the company if you trim any blank, if you want to keep the warrantee.

Thanks for all the input, guys.
Andy, if I get a chance I'll call you tomorrow. Want to talk with you about mandrels, anyway.
