Hello,
I'm going to build a 9' 6wt rod and want to have a fighting butt on it. I'm thinking of having it permanently built on the blank, is there anything I should consider why this wouldn't be such a smart idea? What kind of reelseat would I best use for this? I' want an all aluminum reelseat like the Forecast A7, would I rather take one withe an end cap and drill a hole in it or should I take one without a cap? If anyone knows a good artikel on the web about this kind of stuff, please give me the links, this is going to be my first rod and I apreciate any hints and advice, thanks a lot, Lutz Re: Fighting butt and reelseat questions

I put the "Sage type" fighting butt on all of my 6wt and above rods. I usually take 200 grit sandpaper and take the shape edge off so it looks a bit neater. I think these fighting butts look the best when the reel seat has a transition that rests between the fighting butt and bottom of the reel seat. Re: Fighting butt and reelseat questions

A permanent fighting butt can't get lost and is always there when you need it. I like a fghting butt on all my rods-like an inch or so even on light (3 to 5 weights) rods. Only problem might be if you use a reel on the rod case. A fighting but helps keep crud out of the reel when sitting it on the ground and gives me some extra cranking room when I put the rod butt against my belly. Re: Fighting butt and reelseat questions

Thanks for your answers so far,
Tim, can you give me an example for the reelseat you're talking about? Lutz Re: Fighting butt and reelseat questions

Leave the end off.
make up your own, if you buy one you may have to alter it ? Glue it on a piece of scrap blank that fits into the excisting blank. then glue into the butt of the blank. Re: Fighting butt and reelseat questions
