Hi,
I was looking for a 8 ft 3 wt 2 piece and a 8'6" 6 wt 2 piece rod blanks. I got a deal on some rod blanks. However, they are a 9 ft 3 wt. 2 piece and a 9ft 6 wt 3 piece. Is there anything I should be wary of here? My present rod is 8'6" Tight lines! Lionel Re: 2 or 3 piece?

Please define "WARY". I would be wary of somoene trying to sell me a bootleg DVD.
If you are concerned about not gettng exactly what you are looking for - you have to decide that for yourself. Do you really know what you are looking for? If so, why save a few $$'s to get something you aren't looking for? If you aren't really sure if the extra length or extra piece will suit you, I think you're gonna have to find that out for yourelf. If it were me, I'd opt to build on the blank that I know I want. I know if I saved a few bucks on a blank I really don't want - I will be wasting a lot of my time, and eventually have to spend the money on teh blank I want, then spedn a lot more of my time wrapping them. Lionel,
I don't think that the fish will know the difference! I build (and fish) 8'6" or 9 ft rods almost exclusively. The extra length is great for clearing bushes and ease of mending, and I like the way they cast better than shorter rods. The number of pieces in graphite is meaningless. More pieces means easier transportation and longer setup times, that's all. If you saved a considerable amount of money on the blanks, I'm sure that you'll be satisfied with the results if they're quality blanks. Don't bust a tippet! Jim Re: 2 or 3 piece?

Lionel, the only advantage that I see in a 2 pc vs. a 3 pc is when you break them down without "un-stringing" the rod. If I build multi-piece rods for myself, I like to go with 4 pc just so I can break them down into even lengths without breaking them all the way down. As for performance, Jim is right. You most likely won't be able to tell the difference in feel.

Lionel,
There is some argument that a 3pc rod has better casting performance due to the fact that hing or ferrule area is removed from the center of the rod allowing better and smoother flex and recovery of the rod. For a time (and possibly still) 3pc rods were used for some professional casting for the same reason (at least that was the story I got). I would say that todays blank materials probably have improved so much that this isn't a problem to be too concerned about.
