Wrapping grip transitions

Well i got my leather grips on and i sanded em down and sealed up and sanded again etc and now im starting to wrap them, and im having a hard time getting the thread to go up the ramp. When i wrapped over the EVA the first time i didnt have much of a problem, should i maybe lightly sand the finish to allow the thread to grip more?

any suggesions would be great
thanks!

Ease off the thread tension, a lot, when going up the ramp. DAMHIKT

Take a razor blade and taper the leather about 1/8 to 1/4 inch and you should wrap right up over it, just like tapering a guide foot. Jesse
