I'm buying a dremel tool today to grind guide feet. What grit sandpaper should I buy to do the job? Also, I need something to hold the dremel so I can be hands free to hold the guides, any ideas? Thanks! Re: buying dremel

While I've always found a Dremel to be a poor tool for grinding guide feet (just way too much trouble) I do find the tool very handy for other rod building chores. I started using one a lot more for general tasks once I stepped up to one of their cordless models. Sure helps when you want to do any dirty work outside.
You can probably fashion some sort of collar to hold the tool in a vise if you like. Also, hand-pieces are available that fit onto the head of the Dremel tools that can then be controlled somewhat easier than the larger main tool. ............... Re: buying dremel

After reading one of Tom's posts I went and picked up a 3 buy 1/2 inch grinding wheel and atached it to my drill. Cuts fast and with less heat.
The dremels have a wide range of attachments to use on them My home depot has a whole wall full. Re: buying dremel

I prefer a Dremel tool using a diamond disc to other methods for dressing small single foot guides. The disc can be used with more precision and control than other grinding attachments for the Dremel. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: buying dremel

You can buy a drill press stand for the Dremel. The stand allows you to mount the tool vertically for drilling and contour sanding, or horizontally as a sort of mini bench grinder. The top of the stand has a hook so you can hang the tool from it whan using the flex-shaft attachment. If I recall correctly, the stand is Dremel's most expensive accessory but probably the most usefull one. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
