Bumper Wrap

OK. I had a St Croix blank wrapped conventional and ready to finish. I took all of the guides except the butt guide and rotated them 180 degrees and re-wrapped. Then I placed a small guide at 90 degrees mid-way between the butt 0 degree guide and the first 180 degree guide. Is that all I have to do? The line coming off the reel is almost dead center of the butt guide. The line rests directly on the bottom of the bumper guide and at about 1-1:30 on the first 180 degree guide. Re: Bumper Wrap

What happens to the line's points of contact in the last three guides (0, 90, 180 degrees) when you progressively load the rod? ... And when you fully bend it by the tip to a fully loaded position? ... Is the line torquing the bumper around the blank, or "skipping" contact in any of the guides (most likely in the first 180 guide from the reel)? ... Skipping a guide under a full load can lead to blank failure. (This "skipping" came up last week) ... Just checking, ... Good luck, -Cliff Hall+++ Edited 1 time(s). Sounds good Leon,
Is that with the rod under load? Cliff beat me to the punch and posted his responce while I typed mine. Good luck fishing the rod Leon Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/30/2005 09:08PM by Raymond_Adams. Re: Bumper Wrap

If by bottom of the bumper guide, you mean the part of the ring nearest the blank, then yes, that is correct.

This rod is so fast not very much changes under load on the last 3 guides. I put a shorter bumper guide and now on the first 180 degree guide the line is at about 2 oclock instead of 1 oclock but bot much else changed. Do I need to offset the butt guide at all? Re: Bumper Wrap
