I have agreed to build a casting rod for a friend. I have built about a dozen fly rods and maybe twenty spin rods. Because of the many teachings and tips from this forum I continue to "gain confidence"/ dare I say "improve". ( Best tip? ... Don't have to be perfect with new things, .... give it a try, do your best, learn from mistakes, have fun!) Having said that, I have not built a casting rod before. I am looking forward to doing one. My friend wants an orange/black wrap. I have heard builders mention "Tiger-Eye" blanks. Have any of you done orange/black on these? Other thoughts on blank color for orange/black will be appreciated. He wants a 6'6, Medium or medium-light rod. Thanks Steve Re: Casting rod

If you decide to use that blank do a few wraps on the butt section of it with and without CP to get an idea of what it will look like. Re: Casting rod

Steve,
I have not used tiger eye in a casting blank so I can't advise you on it but I have had good luck using Mudhole's special spinning blanks and building medium wt casting rods on them. The price is very good on them and they come in blue and matte colors. I assume you know what your friend wants for hardware and grips. I like to build that blank with a 9 inch grip and the exposed blank reel seat. I do mostly casting rods and a few spinning rods but now and then I really like to build fly rods. However since I am in the middle of bass country most of my customers are tournament bass fishermen and I haven't been able to talk them into using a fly rod during a tournament. Some day some interprising good old boy will win a tounament by swithing the bass onto flies or bugs and it will all bust loose. Good luck on yor casting rod and if I can be of any help drop me a line. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
