I screwed up last night and epoxied the reel seat and recessed cork handle to my blank and totally spaced lining them up with the spine. my questions are does matching the spine top and bottom really matter much or how relevant is the spine on the butt section and is there a way of getting the cork off without cutting it off? thanks for any help. There is no reason to do that. Yes, the spine on the butt does affect the total spine effect but not as much as the upper sections. Beyond that, spine is largely immaterial anyway - it won't affect casting or rod twist to any practical degree. Keep what you have and build it on out. The rod will be fine.
