SF ceramic guides/6wt rod recommendation

I have 2 questions.

1. Can anyone suggest single foot ceramic guides for under $3.00? Do they exist?


2. Anyone recommend a 9ft., 6 wt blank for me? I like a slower rod for nymphing; like a moderate flex or medium flex. I was thinking of the St. Croix II, but I have one of their 5 wts., and it feels very stiff to me. I was thinking in the $50 - $60 range.

I posted this question before but I was hoping for specifics this time. I have no experience with a wide range of blanks.

Hialoy guides are very inexpensive, less than a buck. They hold up very well and just about everybody carries them.

Do you mean $3.00 a piece or $3.00 for the set? For the price I don't think you can beat the Fuji alconites.
I use a 12, 10 double foot for the strippers then switch to the single foot for the rest of the rod. The titaniums are lighter but very expensive I only put them on the high end rods. I use alconites on all my spinning and casting rods also. You can get them in black or chrome. The rings are thinner than the hardalloy and gives it a nicer look to me.

Thanks Ron & Tim! I meant $3 each. How about a medium action rod? I would like a mid-flex for nymphing--a 9ft. 6wt. You sound as if you have plenty of experience and a good opinion. Thanks again, Bruce

I'd say Forecast blank (you can find discontinued 3pc'rs now for around $25!) and Forecast basic TiCh Zirconia ceramics (around $25 for the set). AmTak Titan guides are also reasonably priced but you may need to order from two different vendors to find someone who stocks both Forecast blanks and these guides. The Forecast is closerto the SCII in terms of feel...great medium action rods for streamers, nymphs, etc.

For the action and price range you mention I would consider a Tiger Eye blank as well as a Forecast. Neal's Fishing on the left is one source. I can also recommend the Alconite gudes withsize #6 running guides.
