Does anyone know the best way to remove dry transfer lettering? I have a Cabelas blank that has all of the blank info on it and I want to remove it. I am thinking that I could scotchbrite it or use 0000 steel wool to remove it since it will be in the inscription area and the finish will restore the gloss anyway.
Thanks, Lou Re: Dry Transfer Lettering

I just scrape it off with a zazor blade and put a wrap over it. Jesse Re: Dry Transfer Lettering

Acetone (use only if the blank is not painted) or De-Natured Alcohol (or maybe 70% IsoPropyl Alcohol) may remove it, IF the lettering does not have a protective over-coat (which most usually do). Otherwise, scrape, scuff & re-finish. -Cliff Hall+++ Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/17/2005 11:10AM by Cliff Hall. Re: Dry Transfer Lettering

If it's not overcoated, then what you're looking at is not dry transfer lettering - but screen printing. Alcohol won't remove that but Acetone will, with a couple minutes to soak and then some elbow greese.
Your best bet might be to try and incorporate some sort of wrap over the top of it, coat that with finish, apply the inscription and then overcoat that. .......... Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
