What kind of a mandrel do I need to turn hypolon grips on a power lathe. Is there something out there to buy or that I can make, that will chuck up in the lathe head ? Like a expandable mandrel that will go in the end of the rod blank. Thanks. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/16/2005 10:08PM by Tom Kirkman. Re: Mandrels

I just stick a scrap piece of rod blank with a close matching taper up into the rod butt. You can add a bit of tape to cushion it and make it fit better.
If you turn grips off the rod and on mandrels, get in touch with Andy Dear at Lamar and he'll set you up with good straight steel mandrels with a counterbore in the outside end. These will fit a live center. Re: Mandrels

I have a 3-jaw chuck on my Sears wood lathe and for years just used scrap blank [ still have a few]. About 2 years ago I bought the complete set from Andy Dear and have nothing but good to say about them, that includes a very fair price. Jesse Re: Mandrels
