I am trying to put together a rod for making very short casts using a Cortland Sylk DT 4.

If by very short you mean, 10-20' of that DT4 line (or less) plus a leader, the 3F603 will do what you want it to do. If you want to be able to comfortably do casts of 30-50' of that line plus the leader, I would get the 3FT664, which is 6" longer and a 3pc. model. Thay are both neat little rods.
