Looking for help

I am new to rod building and looking for advice. I feel that the most important part of a rod is it's blank, and with all the options out there how do I go about picking the right blank?? Is there any artichles out there that will break this down so I can make a good purchase without wasting money??

I agree that the blank is THE most important part.

Your question is tough to answer. Learning about the CCS (Common Cents System) would help, but the manufacturers haven't adopted it. So any blanks not listed on this won't help you. There's a link to it on the upper left of the sponsor's list.

I went to Charlotte to the National Rod Builder's Convention just to be able to wiggle the many thousands of blanks available. It was well worth the trip.

Why don't you let us know what type of rod you want to build; the length you prefer, the weight of the lures you'll be throwing, the line weight, the quarry, etc. and let the expertise of the members here help you with some specific suggestions for the first couple. After that you'll have a better idea of what to look for.

Thanks for the help. I am looking to build a couple of bass casting rods. I am wanting a medium heavy rod for jigs of 1/4 to1/2 oz. and a medium action rod for cranck baits. Both rods to be 6-6 to 6-8.

Thaks for the responce Bill. I have read many post of Rainshadow blanks beeing used and I have looked at the on line. But my question still is, how do I chose this blank over another brand. The price is nice, and the weight looks about the same as most at 2.4 oz. but what else do I need to look for? This has been a big question in my mind on the few rods I have completed, but am still unshure. I thank all for their help.
