Just changed the color of guides to gold from black and already glued up handles and reel seat and now I need to change the seat. What is the best and quickest way to do so? Glued up with rod bond been so for three days.

Try useing heat what i do is stick the butt in hot water works good. hope this helps Marcel

If it will not come loose with heat and pulling and you want to save the rear grip and guides use the JB quick fix. Cut the reed seat completely through - blank and all - split off both ends of the seat - install a internal post - make bushings for both ends - Rod Bond all and fit up. I have repaired about twenty rods this way and have had absolutely no returns.

Not to disagree with anyone, but I recently had a customer want his reel seat on a bass rod downlocking instead of uplocking (turns out it made good sense). Anyway, I put the propane torch to it and firmly twisted with pliers. It came off. I did not have the guides on yet, so running it up the blank was not an issue . . . though it was a little messy.

I would do as Bill Stevens suggested. May I add one more suggestion. When cutt threw the reel seat and blank make your cut at about 10 to 15% not at 90% to the rod. The 10 t0 15% cut well give you a 100 per cent line up when you put the 2 haves back togather.

I removed two reelseats on two different flyrods, by putting the reelseats in boiling water and pulled them off.

Boiling water has worked for me on the 4 or 5 rods I have removed the seats on.Placing the seat in a heavy duty Ziplock bag(one that is made to withstand boiling water) helps to protect it.Check it often to make sure you aren't damaging the blank.

The amount of time it takes to break the bond can vary considerably.Rod Bond does seem a bit tougher to break the bond on that other epoxies.
