I have an old Fenwick brown glass fly/spin rod I want to rebuild as a fly rod. The only thing I cannot find a post on is removing what appears to be writting on the blank i.e. fs60, 6', 1/16 to 1/4 oz ect. I am pretty sure it is not a decal. I cannot feel the writting when I run my finger across it, so it may be under the finish. Has anyone tried to sand this off - or other suggestions? Re: Remove writting on rod

Hey John;
Yes, you can "sand" it off with a scotch pad, just wet it with denatured alcahol. If you don't want to remove the color of the blank, keep an eye on how deep you "sand". After cleaning and drying the blank you can apply a coat or coats of finish. Perma Gloss works well for this. If you go from the first guide (stripper guide) to the butt wrap or the fore-grip with the finish, you will not have an extra finish line (or seam). Tight lines. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
