Hi, I'm Trying to track down the guide sizing and spacing for a VPS 990 blank. The Sage site no longer has the info and for some reason their email link isn't working. Thanks for any help. Mike

You can do it yourself, and in fact, you should learn how if you intend to do much custom rod building. It's not at all hard. Read the article on the online library page on guide placement. Once you understand how to do it, you'll never again be held hostage by having to have factory spacing available to you. In fact, you can even improve on the factory spacing if you're willing to spend 20 to 30 minutes trying some different set ups.

Someone may be able to send you the factory spacing, but in the meantime, please consider doing it yourself.

Thanks Tom. I will use your technique if necessary. I had assumed that Sage would have done this to get the original spacing and being lazy thought I could save a step. You're right, it never hurts to learn something new and who knows maybe I can improve on it. Thanks Mike

Improve on what sage uses! That's what custom building is all about. You can come up with much more efficient guide size/spacing than Sage can. Just because a rod company uses something doesn't make it all that good. They have to build all of their rods for a "generic", average person while you have the luxury of building the rod to the individual. I would think that the ideal position for the stripping guide, for instance would be just forward of where the user's hand meets the blank while stripping line.

Also, there spacing is based on snakes, where I THINK that the majority of builfers use ceramics. Ask here for some suggestions and see what size/spacing others are using

Mike

The VPS specifically might be a rod that you will do better on your own with. In the early catalog description of the VPS one of the cost cutting items they mentioned was that the VPS had one fewer guides than their premium rods. I guess that could be good or bad depending on how you view the number of guides.
