application time of flex coat

I use 2 thin coats of flex coat for my finish. I believe I can apply the second coat when the first is solid but is still sticky. In other words it doesn't have to be completely dry, correct?

Let it turn for 4-5 hours then apply the next. I wouldn't put it on when the first coat is sticky because the brush gets tangled up if there isn't enough finish in it, then you get a mess. Keep in mind if the temperature where you are finishing is too cold, set up time will increase. I don't use FC, but most finishes 5 hours is enough time to apply another coat. Some can be done sooner - just put cot #1 on, put a spare drop of finish on a piece of cardboard or something, and when you can test there if you can put the next coat on

4-5 hours??? my flex coat is sticky for much longer than that, usually starting to lose that quality around the 10-12 hour mark.

Like Eric I found it to be longer. I usually wait at least 12 hours to apply the second. I will do the first in the evening and the other in the morning. Got to work. Come home at lunch and the dryer is ready to be turned off. Since you are applying such thin coats you maybe OK, but I usually have no rush so I choose to wait.

But Billy is right about the colder temps, I wait a bit longer when the weather turns cold. Found that out real quickly!

As I said, I don't use Flex Coat. But Glass Coat, Classic Coat, Epoxy Coatings One Coat - I can wrap over the epoxy in 6 hours as it gets that hard that quick. I also have a drying box. In the box, Aftcoat doesnt' even take that long to stay tacky.

I keep my shop temperature between 72 and 76 degrees and i find that when using Flex Coat or American Tackles finish I can put my second coat in about five hours and four at the least.
