This is a switch!! I am going to build 2 St. Croix flyrods for a friend. He was given the blanks by his father (where he got them, who knows) One is an 8' 4/5 wt 2 pc and the other is 8 1/2'. (This info was on a tag that he had) I am assuming they are older blanks. They have a clear gloss finish (you can see the graphite pattern underneath) Halfway up the blank is a St. Croix decal there is no blank info on the decal, just the gold St Croix logo/name.. The decal edges are plainly visible and the decal really doesn't look good. I did manage to finally peel one of the decals off, but I can't get the sticky residue off. I have tried alcohol and it didn't do very well. I'm hesitant to try anything else for fear of damaging the blank! Any ideas/suggestions???

I can't imagine why anyone would put an adhesive decal in that location (and not very well

ive put them in a fridge before to get them cold so they are not so sticky and give em a good wash with a rag to get everything off from a decal only did this once though cant say if its going to work..........just a suggestion

If you have any laying around the house, WD-40 and lighter fluid are both great for getting rid of glue boogers. Put a bit on a paper towel and it should come right up.

You might try vineger....it's acidic and breaks down some adhesives quite well....worth a try?!

I have used the product Goo Gone to remove adhesive without doing any damage to the finish. This stuff works great for any kind of adhesive removal off of many types of surfaces.

Thanks Guys! A did have some WD-40 in the house and it worked great!!!. The hardest part was getting the decals off in the first place. Don't know what the use, but WOW!!

3M tar and adhesive remover. You can get it at auto part stores.

Just make sure you are careful with that WD40. It will play with any finish and give you fish eyes.
