Calstar vs Seeker blanks for Stand-Up Tuna Rod
Posted by: Samer Ibrahim (---.ms.com)

Hi

I'm looking to build a 50-80# stand up tuna rod and I was wondering whether to go with a Calstar blank or a Seeker blank.

Any other recommendations would be great as well.

Thanks
Sam

Have not used a Seeker but the Calstar Graphiters are some awsome blanks. I really don't think you'll go wrong with either blank.

I have used Cal star for all my stand up rods but seeker also makes a fine blank. I have stayed with Calstar also out of loyalty. Not much of that around anymore.

Thanks for all the replies!

One thing I should mention is that it's my first standup rod so it's likely to be a not so great job. That's one reason I'm looking at the seekers they seem to be 2/3 the price.

I don't know about the stand up tuna rods but I have built many seeker 706s and 708s for live bait for sturgeon and salmon trolling rods. excellent blanks.

I've used many of the Seeker IGFA and Stand-Up models and have never had a complaint. They're a good product.

I doubt you would be disappointed in either.

I have used both and I doubt that I could tell the difference between the two, fishing identically tied rods without label markings (or distinctive teal/red thread wrap).

I agree with Steve, they are almost identical. Top quality blanks. Good luck! Ed

Samer, I have built both and both are great blanks, no complaints from either. I want to lean towards Calstar because of the attention to detail that was paid in its construction. The blank was a little truer and the little hole in the tip was centered perfectly! which I have never seen before. Again both great blanks but a little edge to Calstar.
