I think I've asked this question before but don't remember.

Anyway, after looking at many of the fancy guide wraps on the photo page, do you wrap all the guides on the rod the same way or just the bigger guides on the bigger part of the rod where it's easiest to do so? It seems that most of the pics are of the butt guide and double footed guides. On single foot guides do you make the fancy wraps on the small fly guides also? They can be such a pain to wrap sometimes.

All the guides are the same. I also put a wrap on the tip top just below the tube.

I wrap all the guides pretty much identical; this includes a wrap at the base of the tip-top, too. I just change the number of threads in the trim bands and make the trim band smaller as the guide wrap gets smaller.

I cheat...most of the rods I built when I was building ,were SW rods with double foot guides. From the reel seat the first 3 or so guides match with detail, then I'd switch to any easier wrap toward the top, with just a little trim. For a while, I actually left out the trim on ONE of the top guides just to see if people would notice (no one ever did, and when someone complained about a tiny bubble in the finish... I'd point out the major flaw they missed in the guide wraps)...

I too change the wrap on the smaller guides because it can be such a pain to try to match all the wraps on those small #6 fly guides. It's pretty easy to make more intricate wraps on the double foot guides and those guides which are place on the bigger diameter part of the rod. I don't usually put a wrap on the top because I've had a few top rings pop out...which surprised me. I just wondering what most folks do because you only see the photos of the butt or stipper guides. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that there is a right or wrong way of doing the guide wraps just wondering what most folks do.
