I just returned from Walmart and they have a small microwave for $34. I have read and re read the archives on drying a few blanks at a time an am really uncertain about trying the method. I'm having a difficult time evaluating the pros and cons. MY son-in law cut a beautiful large maple burl for me. I haver processed much into 1.25 x 1.25 x various lengths and coated them with anshorseal. I suspect these will need to remain in my heated garage for at least 1 year.

I really want to try the microwave method on some of the remaining pieces, but I would love to hear some success stories.

I really would appreciate some opinions form those who have had tried it.

I think you'll have some checking from driving the water out so quickly. When you convert water to steam it expands 1600 times in volume. You could try taking one of the rounded edge pieces of the burl that you're not going to use and see what happens to it to be sure.

I have tried microwave drying with fair success. There is a lot of information that can be found on this site and also by searching with Google on the net. You have to proceed with caution that you don't build excessive heat and allow the wood to cool between treatments. Fortunately I live in an exceedingly dry climate and have no problem drying wood in my garage in a relatively short time so I didn't continue using a microwave.
