Sorry can't help you there. I just bought a Penn State Turncrafter pro and I love it. I saw those Rands on @#$%&, and they look almost exactly like the Turncrafter Pro. Plus you have to think about shipping unless they'tr offering free shipping.

It is an extremely cheap tool and would be next to worthless for any serious wood turning work. However, for turning cork or EVA it might be just fine. Just don't expect to get any heavy duty use out of it. We're talking about a very lightweight and cheaply made unit. I wouldn't begin to compare it to the Turncrafter Pro or the similar units from Delta, Jet or Frisch.

Tom,

At 50lbs that doesn't seem very light to me, but it may be? I bought one and it's on it's way-it's only money....HA! I'll let you guys know how it does after about a years worth of play :) ..if it makes it that long! LOL

I also bought your book-on its way also-and can't wait to go through it, I'm sure I'll learn much from it.

Your next investment should be Andy Dear's turning DVD, a set of his mandrels, some GOOD tools and a slow grinder with white/pink wheels!!

I may be looking at a different unit, but I think this is the same one that Grizzly has been selling for many years.

I second Mike's suggestion about Andy Dear's DVD. If you've never had a lathe before it will sure save you a lot of hard lessons. Andy points out not only "How To's" but also safety considerations that a green horn like me wouldn't have thought of.
